Hometown Holiday Weekend
The Hometown Holiday Weekend events take place the first weekend of December.
2008 Schedule: December 4-7
The Lighted Holiday Parade kicks off the holiday inspired event on Thursday evening at 6 p.m. beginning at the corner of Rose Street and Cedar Avenue. Lighted vehicles and floats travel down Cedar Avenue while carolers stroll down the street singing traditional holiday carols. The parade ends in Central Park for the annual Lighting of Lights ceremony (6:30 p.m.), where the downtown dancing light show in Central Park is revealed for the holiday season.
These events have traditionally been held in conjunction with the Rose Street ALC School. Local business and associations may participate in the Lighted Holiday Parade.
On Friday, the Holiday Shopping Stroll takes place. OBP businesses feature “Santa Specials”, and this typically is the start of the holiday hours for most businesses.
The Pancake Breakfast with Santa is held at the Eagles Club Saturday morning. Community members can bring an unwrapped toy to donate to Toys for Tots and receive a free picture with Santa followed by a delicious pancake breakfast. Tickets are sold in advance and at the door for this event.
